War - it is a time of chaos and destruction on an unprecedented scale, a thing that is hard to imagine without experiencing it by yourself. Currently there’s a war raging in Europe, the Russo-Ukrainian war. In Estonia and across Europe we are constantly being told that we should donate money and resources to send to Ukraine - and most of the support from the countries we live in come from the taxpayers money, leaving almost no or no room at all for say in it. Many people would instead prefer their earnt taxed money to be used to improve their country and their living conditions, some would prefer something else - but that’s another topic for later.
Now, I want peace as most of us do, but from my standpoint, sending military and warfare machinery to Ukraine is not bringing about peace, but instead prolonging the war, causing more destruction and increasing the constantly rising death count on the battlefields. Do not understand me the wrong way, I don’t oppose humanitarian aid to Ukraine, that is very much welcome in every way possible for the people of Ukraine that suffer from this war, but I do oppose the military support to Ukraine, and that I’ll explain why and you might understand and adopt such a or a similar standpoint as well:
Sending arms to Ukraine prolongs the conflict and increases the death count of many young and old men who should live their lives instead of dying on a battlefield, currently Ukraine is having problems with manpower and a hard time recruiting new troops, the more arms that are sent to Ukraine provoke Ukraine’s government to recruit more troops in ways it should not be done. In 2022 when the war started, the average age of a troop was between 31-34, currently the average is around 43 (2023, https://www.belfercenter.org/publication/average-age-ukrainian-soldiers-past-40-and-could-be-problem). The older the troops get, the more the fighting ability is lost, therefore resulting in more lives being lost for less gain. By day it is getting harder to recruit younger men that are more able to fight than the older men. I do not think that sending arms to Ukraine is helping the country secure their future as an independent state, but instead is crushing their country from the inside and then making it seem from the surface like they are holding back the Russians and are winning the war - this is simply not true. Only by God’s grace have they been able to keep up for so long.
On a personal side note, I don’t think we should be saying “Slava Ukraini” (“Glory to Ukraine”), but instead we should be glorifying the Almighty Lord, let us say “Slava Bogu” (“Glory to God”) instead. We shouldn't praise nor glorify countries, but instead God.
If you have any questions or ideas, please do leave them in the comment section, I will try and read them and respond to some also. If you feel like I went wrong somewhere and you want to correct me, don’t fear to include that also in the comments, but do so not aggressively. God bless you ❤!
